QATAR AIRWAYS New Santorini Services

Skytrax 2019 Airline of the Year, Qatar Airways, is adding the romantic Greek island of Santorini to its ever-growing destination network.

The airline’s first Doha-Santorini services take to the sky in May 2020.

The seasonal services (May to October) will operate thrice weekly by Airbus A320 aircraft featuring 12 seats in Business Class and 132 seats in Economy, offering a one-stop service from Australia to Santorini.

“We’re really excited about these new Qatar Airways flights to Santorini,” said Lisa Byers, General Manager of The Travel Authority Corporate & Resource in Fremantle.

“The Greek islands are gorgeous, and these new services make Santorini closer than ever before for Australian travellers by eliminating the 6-hour ferry journey from Athens or a domestic flight. We expect the flights to be very popular,” added Lisa.

Santorini will become Qatar Airways’ fourth destination in Greece, joining Athens, Thessaloniki and seasonl Mykonos flights.

QATAR AIRWAYS is Bringing its Qsuite to Perth

The 2019 Skytrax World’s Best Airline Qatar Airways, has announced a temporary change to the aircraft its operating into Perth.

Between September and December 2019, Qatar Airways’ Perth-Doha services will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft fitted with the airline’s award-winning Qsuite business class product.

“We’re really excited about this, even if it is only temporary”, says Lisa Byers, General Manager of The Travel Authority Corporate & Resource in Fremantle.

“Whilst the Boeing 777 lacks First Class and the A380’s spacious bar and lounge, our clients will love getting a taste of the Qsuite’s unique a face-to-face ‘party of four’ configuration and flexibility”, added Lisa.

Qatar Airways’ Qsuite was named World’s Best Business Class at the 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Clients of The Travel Authority enjoyed it first-hand with an exclusive invitation to experience the Qsuite on a day trip to Canberra in early 2019. Read more about that experience HERE.

Qatar Airways’ New Qsuite Impresses

The Travel Authority and Qatar Airways hosted a terrific day trip to Canberra for a number of our Corporate clients.

TTA’s clients were met at Qatar Airways Check in area E at Sydney International Airport Terminal on Friday, 22nd February 2019 at 6:30am for the short hop to Canberra. From there they were whisked away to the National Museum of Australia for a private one-hour guided tour followed by brunch at the stunning waterfront Museum Café.

The group flew to Canberra aboard Qatar Airways impressive Boeing 777-300ER featuring the airline’s revolutionary Qsuite Business Class product.

“It was a fabulous day, and a brilliant way to showcase this premium airline product to our clients”, said Sarah Bush, Director of The Travel Authority Group.

“The new Qsuite is brilliant. Its ability to cleverly and comfortably accommodate single passengers, couples, even families or groups of four travelling together is real innovation”, added Sarah.

The Travel Authority team conducted a vox-pop with their guests on the return leg to Sydney. Here’s what a couple of them had to say about their Qatar Airways Qsuite experience:

“I adored the Qsuite. I thought the attention to detail was wonderful. There’s just such a huge array of seating arrangements, the lay-flat position was exceptionally comfortable. I loved the extra touch of the signature Qsuite drink of lemon and mint tea, which was adorable. And I would just love to be flying them every other day of the week!”

“I’d have to say the Qsuites are absolutely stunning. They are well above my expectation, and I will definitely be going back to work and discussing with Directors about using this for their travels. The staff have been warm, professional and friendly. I can’t find a fault at this stage, so I will definitely be recommending it as an option moving forward with our corporate travel.”

I was very impressed. It was very roomy, actually First Class quality. The crew are amazing, very attentive, very friendly, and very accommodating.

On the return journey to Sydney, the group met the airline’s recently appointed Commercial Manager, Cassandra Kerr who was aboard.

Cassandra Kerr, Commercial Manager Qatar Airways; David Thompson, Manager – Sales & Client Experience at The Travel Authority; Sarah Bush, Director at The Travel Authority Group; and Lida Alevizos, Senior Sales Executive Qatar Airways.

“We were delighted to be able to introduce Cassandra to our clients. That simple act was a clear demonstration of the strength of our relationship with a great travel supplier like Qatar Airways”, says The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.

Qatar Airways is off to Mykonos!

The airline commences seasonal Doha to Mykonos flights on 22 May 2019 operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.

The five weekly Mykonos services are scheduled to operate between 22 May and 29 September, and will complement the airline’s existing three daily flights to Greece’s capital, Athens; and four weekly flights to Thessaloniki.

oneworld Alliance Turns 20!

As oneworld® marks its 20th anniversary, the global airline alliance has unveiled a suite of benefits for customers and member airlines.

The CEOs of oneworld member airlines met in London on 01 February to mark the 20th anniversary, and unveil a transformation of the global alliance.

oneworld CEO Rob Gurney said, “In the two decades since oneworld was launched, the industry and consumer behaviours have changed fundamentally. Most of our member airlines have undergone comprehensive restructuring. Some have merged. When oneworld first took off, hardly any airline offered online bookings. Smartphones were in the future. Social media did not exist. Airline fares included everything. Low-cost carriers were in their infancy.

“Since then, global alliances have grown greatly in terms of membership but, to be frank, they have failed to keep pace with the changes that their members, the industry at large and the marketplace have experienced. At oneworld, we are making up for that. As we enter our third decade, we are undergoing a radical transformation, with a host of fresh initiatives to strengthen further the relevance of the alliance to our member airlines and our customers.”

Those initiatives include:

Digital revolution
Customers flying on connecting flights on oneworld airlines will be able to check-in, obtain boarding passes, track baggage, receive flight updates and pay for additional services through their preferred airline’s app or website, progressively from this year.

Improved customer experience
oneworld-branded and managed airport lounges to be rolled out at key airports, offering more space and service.

More member airlines
Royal Air Maroc to join in 2020 and Fiji Airways to be fully implemented as first oneworld connect partner next month, increasing the alliance network to 1,100 destinations in 180 territories, with more oneworld connect partners to be signed.

Royal Air Maroc is oneworld’s first full member recruit for six years and its first from Africa.

An updated brand
New oneworld market positioning that is ‘fresh, contemporary and more inclusive’ reflecting the diversity of the alliance’s member airlines and their customers, with the tagline Travel Bright. This initiative also includes a new website.

oneworld was launched on 1 February 1999 by founding members American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways and Qantas.

Since then, they have been joined by:

  • Finnair and Iberia (1999)
  • LATAM (then LanChile, 2000)
  • Japan Airlines and Royal Jordanian (2007)
  • S7 Airlines (2010)
  • Malaysia Airlines (2013)
  • Qatar Airways (2013)
  • SriLankan Airlines (2014)

Royal Air Maroc was invited into the alliance in December and is on track to join during 2020.

Around 30 airlines linked to the alliance’s full members are oneworld affiliate members, offering its full range of services and benefits. Fiji Airways was introduced as the first oneworld connect partner in December 2018, offering a subset of the alliance’s services and benefits, and is on track for full implementation next month.
Collectively, these airlines now:

  • Serve 1,100 airports in 180 territories, with 14,000 daily departures.
  • Carry almost 550 million passengers a year on a combined fleet of 3,500 aircraft.
