Emirates Chauffeur Drive update

Emirates has advised The Travel Authority Group of a change to the airline’s preferred chauffeur service provider in Sydney and Brisbane.

Emirates will now partner with Hughes Chauffeured Cars to offer its chauffeur service. Hughes operates professional ground transport services in several cities and at airports worldwide.

Along with the change in service provider, eligible Emirates flyers will also enjoy an increase in complimentary mileage radius in the following cities:

On 01 March 2019, the airline ceased its Complimentary Chauffeur Drive Service at Origin, Destination or in Dubai on:

  • First and Business Classic Reward Tickets
  • Upgraded Economy to Business class tickets, where frequent flyer points are utilised

Please note, however, that the Complimentary Chauffeur Drive service is still provided on all Business and First revenue tickets, and for those upgrading from Business to First utilising Skywards points.

Emirates is Heading to Porto

Emirates has announced it will commence a four-times weekly service between Dubai and Portugal’s second largest city, Porto, from 02 July 2019.

Porto will become Emirates’ second destination in Portugal after its capital, Lisbon, which the airline currently serves with two flights a day.

“This will be a popular option for the premium leisure crowd”, said The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.

“We’re seeing growth in bookings to Portugal. These one-stop services will bring Porto and destinations along Portugal’s northern coast into focus for many Australian travellers, especially with the great value launch fares”, added Hosper.

  • Economy Class fares from Sydney start from AU$1739 per person

  • Business Class fares from Sydney start from AU$7935 per person

ON SALE until 28 February 2019 only. Valid for travel between 01 July and 12 December 2019.

“Porto is currently enjoying increased levels of tourism, which is also reflective of the growth in the number of visitors to Portugal as a whole. The introduction of this new flight, along with our twice daily Lisbon service, will help meet this growing demand from both leisure and business travellers, as well as provide them with more choice, flexibility and connectivity when travelling to and from Portugal,” said Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline.

Emirates Network And Baggage Changes

A couple of recent updates from Emirates have flagged a number of changes to the airline’s operations that will affect passengers travelling to-and-from Australia:

  • Flight suspensions
  • Baggage allowance changes

As one of the largest airlines in the world, Emirates regularly updates its flight schedules, and this year it has done so to minimise the impact of the closure of Dubai International Airport’s Southern Runway in April-May 2019, and to respond to global travel demand trends.

“The changes we are implementing to our network schedules in 2019 are in line with this approach, taking into consideration global market dynamics and operational limitations including the maintenance work on Dubai Airport’s Southern Runway. Through the year, we will continue to keep a close watch on global markets and will maintain our flexibility to optimise the usage of our aircraft assets”, said Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline.

The changes?

  1. Emirates will suspend flights EK 418/419 between Bangkok and Sydney from 01 June 2019. Emirates will continue to serve Sydney with three non-stop flights a day to Dubai.
  2. Effective 31 March 2019, Emirates will suspend EK 424/425 and serve Perth with a once daily Airbus A380 non-stop service from Dubai.

Emirates has also announced a reduction in baggage allowances for ‘Special’ and ‘Saver’ fare types in Economy Class effective 04 FEBRUARY 2019. The changes are part of what the airline describes as a move away from a ‘one size fits all’ approach to airfares and inclusions.

The table below shows how the changes will be affect journeys between Australia and Europe via Dubai.

Journeys between Dubai and North America, where luggage allowances are determined on a ‘piece’ (not weight) basis are affected differently. These changes are illustrated below.

Free baggage allowance is dependent on the fare brand selected and can vary on inbound and outbound part of the journey. This information will clearly be shown on the customer flight ticket.
