NEW QANTAS Brisbane-USA Flights Now Selling!

Australians can now book direct flights from Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco for the first time.

We reported on Qantas’ new services from Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco back in June 2019, and now we’re delighted to advise that those services are now selling.

The new routes will be operated by Qantas’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, offering next-generation seating and built-in jet lag reducing features, and see the national carrier grow its United States network from one to three non-stop destinations from Brisbane.

The airline has had to expand its International Brisbane Lounge by 25 percent this year in response to the popularity of flights from the Queensland capital.

The new Qantas services from Brisbane will fly to:

SAN FRANCISCO from 9 February 2020 – three days per week
CHICAGO from 20 April 2020 – four days per week

By flying direct to Chicago, Qantas flyers will save more than six hours on a return trip compared to current non-direct routes. The service also opens up a new Qantas gateway for Australians into North America, with access to onward destinations across American Airlines’ extensive network including to Canada and the North Eastern United States.

“This is the first time Australians will have a direct link to Chicago, the third-largest US city. We expect the flights will be popular with corporate travellers looking to do business there, but also with tourists wanting to experience some of the culture and history that Chicago is famous for,” said Qantas International Acting CEO, Naren Kumar.

The 14,326km flight from Brisbane to Chicago will be the fourth longest in the world, and the second longest flight on Qantas’ network, and take approximately 16 hours and 20 minutes (depending on winds).

The new routes will see a total of 14 weekly services year-round between Brisbane and the US, including the daily 787 Brisbane to Los Angeles service that continues to New York.  In addition to the new routes, Qantas will increase flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles from ten to thirteen per week during the peak season from 2 January to 8 February 2020.

The entire Travel Authority Group gathered in Brisbane in May to plan, share insights, learn and celebrate 15 years of success.

Staff from across The Travel Authority Group flew in from Sydney, Canberra and Perth, and stayed at one of Brisbane’s hottest properties, The Calile Hotel.

The theme for the weekend was TTA TLC.

“That’s TLC for our clients, for our suppliers and, of course, for each other. After another amazing year we wanted to explore our opportunities to build on our ongoing success and refine what we do and how we do it”, explained Hosper.

The Travel Authority Group engaged the team from InteractIF to design their interactive planning sessions.

“The InteractIF guys are known for their ‘make learning sticky’ mantra. It wasn’t easy cracking 15-year-old processes and practices apart to examine them, but our sessions were spot-on, informative and great fun. Importantly, the outcomes will bring great improvement to how we operate, and how we connect with each other, our clients and our suppliers”, says Hosper.

But the weekend wasn’t all about conferencing, with the team heading out to Australia Zoo for an afternoon of team building, as well as plenty of opportunity to celebrate 15 great years of operation for The Travel Authority Group and acknowledge the efforts of the team.

Brisbane Welcomes ‘The Fantauzzo’—Australia’s newest Art Series Hotel

Australia’s newest Art Series hotel is set to open in Brisbane in late March.

Book now and you’ll be one of the first guests at to experience the city’s new $100 million flagship Art Series Hotel, The Fantauzzo.

Named after and inspired by artist Australian Vincent Fantauzzo, The Fantauzzo will make statement beneath the iconic Story Bridge at Brisbane’s rejuvenated Howard Smith Wharves. The six-storey hotel weaves creativity and contemporary luxury through every level and blends of architecture, nature and art.

The hotel’s creators describe it as “seamlessly entwining art with the surrounding landscape and urban fabric.”

Vincent Fantauzzo, is a Melbourne-based Australian portrait artist known for his portraits of Heath Ledger, Brandon Walters, Matt Moran, Emma Hack, Baz Luhrmann, Asher Keddie and the like.

Located directly under Brisbane’s imposing Story Bridge, a challenging location both from a design and construction point of view, SJB Project Director Tristan Wong said integral to the hotel’s design was the idea it did not compromise the heritage buildings along Howard Smith Wharves which would remain clearly distinguishable.

“Brisbane is emerging as a vibrant city with a growing interest in the arts and our design plays off this notion to create what is to become a landmark hotel for the precinct,” he added.

Inside the hotel, the lobby features a double-height wall of glass that brings the cliff-face inside, while the guest rooms enjoy spectacular city views of the Brisbane River, tumbling greenery or the sculptured rock wall.

This will be the greenest Art Series hotel with some of the environmental friendly aspects of the development including: high performance glazing, low VOC materials, open corridors, cascading plants over the building’s facade, smart lighting and cross ventilated common spaces. All cars will be located underground so the riverfront is completely for human traffic, on foot or by bike, and tropical gardens.

The six-storey hotel will offer four distinct food and beverage outlets as well as an impressive rooftop pool boasting spectacular views of the Brisbane River and CBD, bar, gym and three conference rooms, fully equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.
