WE KNOW: Etihad Business Class

Sarah Bush, Director of The Travel Authority Group, hit the skies again recently, flying long-haul from Sydney with Etihad Airways.

This trip enabled Sarah to experience a few things for the first time. Those being a first visit to The House lounge at Sydney Airport, and a first time flying during Ramadan.

Observed by Muslims, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer and reflection. Sarah wondered how flying during Ramadan might influence the service offered by a Middle-Eastern carrier.

Very little, it turns out.

“Save for a special Ramadan offering on the in-flight menu, you wouldn’t even know. Those not fasting enjoyed the full service of F&B on the ground and in the air”, reports Sarah.

Ramadan continues until 04 June, 2019.

On board, Sarah found the hardware comfortable and practical.

“Mine was a good, comfortable business class seat with decent size TV, a nice little amenity pack, and plenty of storage for books, glasses, laptop and shoes”, says Sarah.

And The House lounge?

“The House is a lovely space of tranquility. There’s loads of casual seating and a beautiful little restaurant with proper tables, cutlery and napkins, and a good snack menu served directly to you by very friendly and welcoming staff”, Sarah reports.

The House is a new lounge brand launched by the airline in collaboration with No1 Lounges to create a ‘stylish and contemporary airport lounge experience in keeping with Etihad’s design and guest experience philosophy.’

Sarah flew on an Etihad Boeing 777-300ER, and was seated in seat 10C.

MAKING THE CUT: TTA Group Named Finalists Twice at the 2019 NTIA Awards

We’re delighted two-times over at the news that both The Travel Authority and The Events Authority have been named finalists in the 2019 National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA).

THE NTIA is run by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) and is the Australian travel industry’s premier awards program.

“We’re so pleased that The Travel Authority and The Events Authority have been recognised as two of the best travel businesses in the country”, says The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.

“The Events Authority truly deserves their place among the finalists. They do an amazing job, and we wish Sharon Levingston and the team all the best through the final judging process”, adds Hosper.

The awards recognise and reward excellence in the Australian travel industry, through a process which includes nominating, voting and judging candidates, culminating in the announcement of the winners at a Gala Awards Dinner.

The Travel Authority is contesting the ‘Best Travel Agency Corporate – Multi Location’ category, while The Events Authority is aiming to take out the trophy for ‘Best Business Events Travel Agency’.

Both businesses are presenting to the NTIA jury in June, before the Gala Awards Dinner takes place in Sydney on 20 July. We’ll update you on the results when they’re in.

In the meantime, wish us luck!

WE KNOW: How to Take the Team Away

The entire Travel Authority Group gathered in Brisbane in May to plan, share insights, learn and celebrate 15 years of success.

The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper, opening the conference.

“Our weekend conference is an annual affair, and this one was brilliantly organised by the team at The Events Authority. Sharon Levingston and her events team did an incredible job”, said The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.

Staff from across The Travel Authority Group flew in from Sydney, Canberra and Perth, and stayed at one of Brisbane’s hottest properties, The Calile Hotel.

The theme for the weekend was TTA TLC.

“That’s TLC for our clients, for our suppliers and, of course, for each other. After another amazing year we wanted to explore our opportunities to build on our ongoing success and refine what we do and how we do it”, explained Hosper.

The Travel Authority Group engaged the team from InteractIF to design their interactive planning sessions.

“The InteractIF guys are known for their ‘make learning sticky’ mantra. It wasn’t easy cracking 15-year-old processes and practices apart to examine them, but our sessions were spot-on, informative and great fun. Importantly, the outcomes will bring great improvement to how we operate, and how we connect with each other, our clients and our suppliers”, says Hosper.

But the weekend wasn’t all about conferencing, with the team heading out to Australia Zoo for an afternoon of team building, as well as plenty of opportunity to celebrate 15 great years of operation for The Travel Authority Group and acknowledge the efforts of the team.

Having the entire Group together was a rare treat, and we’re grateful to a number of valued sponsors who helped make it happen:

  • helloworld business travel
  • Amadeus
  • Virgin Australia
  • Air New Zealand
  • Tramada
  • Centrix
  • Crown Perth

QANTAS Announces San Francisco as next Dreamliner Destination

From early December 2019, Qantas passengers flying between Sydney and San Francisco will experience the airline’s next generation Economy, Premium Economy and Business cabins aboard the 787 Dreamliner.

The change coincides with the phased delivery of Qantas’ six additional Dreamliners, as the more efficient aircraft gradually replaces the Boeing 747 aircraft on the airlines’ international network by the end of 2020.

“As much as we’re sad to see Qantas’ fleet of 747s being retired, the deployment of these new aircraft and their brilliant in-flight offering bring new levels of quality on popular routes for our business and leisure clients”, said The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.

“We look forward to experiencing it for ourselves”, added Hosper.

The Sydney-San Francisco Dreamliner service will operate daily, complementing Qantas’ existing four-times-per-week Dreamliner service from Melbourne.

The popular Californian city is one of five international destinations currently served by the Qantas Dreamliner, along with Los Angeles, New York, London and Hong Kong.

Qantas International Acting CEO Naren Kumar said the ongoing roll-out of the Dreamliner was good news for more passengers across the airline’s network.

“Our Dreamliner is the most comfortable aircraft we have ever flown. Customer feedback on the cabin environment, from the seats to the anti-jetlag measures, continues to exceed our expectations,” said Mr Kumar.

“We’ll also soon begin upgrading the cabins of our A380 aircraft which means the inflight experience for our customers travelling to the United States will have never been better”, he added.

The new aircraft will bring Qantas’ total fleet of Dreamliners to 14 in the second half of 2020.

Qantas’ Dreamliner carries 236 passengers across three cabins. It features the latest version of the airline’s Business Suite, as well as a next generation Premium Economy seat and a significantly improved Economy seat with extra storage compartments and more legroom.

ACCOR Announces New Art Series Hotel for Perth

Accor has announced that its ninth Art Series hotel will open in Perth’s CBD in October 2019, launching the Art Series brand in Western Australia.

The new-build, full-service hotel is aimed at both business and leisure travellers with 250 stylish guest rooms, a signature restaurant with terrace, bar and lounge, ground floor café, swimming pool, gymnasium and a function room.

The new 27-storey hotel at 900 Hay Street, Perth will draw inspiration from its incoming namesake artist, with custom contemporary furnishings and original artworks and prints adorning the walls and halls.

Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath, said the opening of this hotel will mark the arrival of Art Series Hotels in Western Australia and represents the Group’s strategic direction to grow the brand.

“This announcement reflects the continued expansion and evolution of Australia’s only boutique hotel brand creating art inspired experiences for guests,” said McGrath.

“This major new asset will support the local tourism industry and create new jobs, which are both so vital to Perth and Western Australia”, added McGrath.

Further details, including the hotel’s namesake artist, will be released in the coming months.

“We’re intrigued about which artist will be named as the hotel’s namesake”, said Lisa Byers, General Manager of The Travel Authority Corporate & Resource, Fremantle.

“Art Series properties are really unique, and this one promises to add significantly to Perth’s evolving hotel scene. We’re sure it will be very popular with leisure and business travellers”, added Byers.

The hotel is currently undergoing an extensive internal fit-out and remains targeted for completion in September 2019.

The Art Series portfolio includes Melbourne hotels The Olsen, South Yarra; The Blackman, St Kilda Road; The Cullen, Prahan; The Larwill, Parkville; The Chen, Box Hill, along with The Watson in Walkerville, South Australia and The Johnson and The Fantauzzo in Brisbane.

A 10-Year Milestone at The Travel Authority Corporate & Resource!

We’re thrilled about Hannah Moore, Operations Manager Western Australia at The Travel Authority Corporate & Resource, reaching 10 years of exemplary employment and contribution to The Travel Authority Group.

“Hannah offered something different when she came to our office in 2009, and she quickly became an invaluable member of the team”, said Lisa Byers, General Manager of The Travel Authority Corporate & Resource, Fremantle.

“With her ‘nothing is impossible’ attitude, Hannah deftly handles the challenges posed by the complexities of travel within the Corporate travel arena and the Oil and Gas sector. Her knowledge, natural leadership qualities and focus on customer service has taken her from travel consultant to our Operations Manager in W.A.”, adds Lisa.

Hannah received national recognition in 2011 when she was named ‘Best Corporate Travel Consultant’ at the National Travel Industry Awards—a proud moment for both Hannah and Lisa.

When asked about how she felt about reaching her 10th anniversary, Hannah said, “I am so excited to be celebrating 10 years! It feels like it was just yesterday that I started out here, but also a lifetime ago. This was my first corporate travel job. I really found my feet here and I’ve never looked back.”

In recognition of her contribution to our success in the West, Hannah was presented with a pair of Business Class flights which she plans to use on an upcoming trip to Cuba or Eastern Europe.
